What to do if your Air Conditioner is Broken
With the Winter months behind us and Summer right on the horizon, many families will soon be turning to their air conditioner to bear the brunt of the Summer heat. Unfortunately, a good portion of air conditioner failures are discovered on the first time the system is used each year! If you’ve recently gone to your thermostat and found that your air conditioner is not blowing cold air, there’s a few steps you can take before determining that you absolutely have a broken air conditioner and should call your local HVAC pros at Mauzy Heating, Air & Solar.
1. Check Your Breakers
Some air conditioners have been installed with a dedicated circuit – so it might just be a breaker! See if you can find the breaker that is assigned to your air conditioner and make sure it’s active. If the breaker trips immediately after activating the air conditioner, do not try it again! That can be a sign of failure within the system or an electrical failure within your home. Make sure to call the Mauzy Heating, Air & Solar Team in that situation.
2. Check Your Thermostat
Make sure that your thermostat is working properly first! Some thermostats use battery power to run the air conditioning system and if the thermostat was seldom used in the Winter months, they may have lost charge. Occasionally, fixing your air conditioning problem is as easy as swapping some batteries!
